Investor Portal
The investor portal gives your shareholders and members a private, secure way to access investor updates, data room documents, and board meeting materials — without needing a FoundersBoxx account.
How It Works
Each shareholder (for corporations) or member (for LLCs) can be granted portal access with a unique, secure link. They can access what you share without creating an account, or they can claim their profile for a more personalized experience.
Enabling Portal Access
To enable portal access for a shareholder:
- Go to Investors → Shareholders (or Members for LLCs)
- Click on the shareholder’s name
- In the portal section, toggle Enable Portal Access
- A unique portal link is generated automatically
- Copy the link to share with them
Access Controls
You control exactly what each shareholder can see. Toggle each section independently:
Investor Updates
Access to monthly/quarterly investor updates you’ve published. They’ll see a chronological list and can read each update’s full content.
Data Room
Access to documents you’ve shared in the data room — financials, legal docs, pitch decks, and other materials.
Board Meetings
Access to board meeting agendas, materials, and minutes (if you use FoundersBoxx for board management).
Sharing Options
Simple Link Sharing
Copy the unique portal link and send it directly to the shareholder via email, message, or however you communicate. The link is secure and unique to that shareholder.
Magic Link Authentication
For recurring access, shareholders can “claim” their portal profile:
- Shareholder visits their portal link
- They click Claim This Profile
- Enter their email address
- Receive a magic link via email
- Click the link to authenticate
Once claimed, they can return anytime by requesting a new magic link — no password needed.
Portal Experience
For Shareholders
When a shareholder visits their portal, they see:
- Company name and logo
- List of investor updates (if enabled)
- Data room documents (if enabled)
- Board meeting materials (if enabled)
- Navigation between updates (previous/next)
The portal uses a clean, focused layout separate from the main FoundersBoxx interface.
Multi-Company Access
If a stakeholder is a shareholder in multiple FoundersBoxx companies, they can switch between them after claiming their profile. Their magic link authenticates them across all companies where they have access.
Managing Access
Viewing Portal Status
On the shareholder detail page, you can see:
- Whether portal is enabled
- Which sections they can access
- When they last accessed the portal
- Whether they’ve claimed their profile
Revoking Access
To remove portal access:
- Go to the shareholder’s detail page
- Toggle off Enable Portal Access
- Their link immediately stops working
You can re-enable access anytime — they’ll get a new unique link.
Regenerating Links
If you need to invalidate an existing link:
- Disable portal access
- Re-enable portal access
- A new unique token is generated
The old link will no longer work.
Best Practices
Share updates consistently — Investors appreciate regular communication. Monthly updates keep them engaged without overwhelming.
Control access granularly — Not every investor needs access to everything. Lead investors might get full access, while smaller angels might only see updates.
Use claimed profiles — Encourage investors to claim their profiles for a better experience and easier access.
Keep links secure — Portal links are sensitive. Share them directly with the intended recipient, not in public channels.
Updates in the Portal
When you publish an investor update, shareholders with updates access can immediately view it in their portal. They’ll see:
- The full update content
- Financial metrics and highlights
- Any asks or action items
- Attached documents
Updates appear in chronological order with the most recent first.
Security
Portal access is secured through:
- Unique tokens — Each shareholder gets a cryptographically random link
- Magic link authentication — No passwords to steal or guess
- Granular permissions — Control exactly what each person can access
- Audit trail — Track when shareholders access the portal
- Instant revocation — Remove access immediately when needed
Portal sessions expire after a period of inactivity. Shareholders can request a new magic link to re-authenticate.
